It’s ALL About the Glory

This may sound like nonsense, but it is true.  When I left home to go to college, I had a lot of experience in church, but very little in worship.  The churches that I grew up in were wonderful places with loving people, great preaching, and even some pretty good music.  But I didn’t really learn much about worship.  Sunday mornings were all about the preaching.  There were no “worship leaders” only “song leaders.”  Those of us in the music ministry would get in trouble if the “song service” went to long and cut into the preaching time.  The emphasis was always on evangelism.  That’s not a bad thing at all, but there was no balance.  Worshiping God by honoring Him and giving Him glory is a concept that I am still grasping a little more each day.

Sharing the gospel is important.  People accepting and following Jesus as Lord and Master is important.  Living in a faith community in harmony with other believers is important.  Loving and serving others is important.  Evangelism, discipleship, fellowship, and ministry are all important Biblical mandates.  But there is one thing that is more important to God than any of these.  All of these things are really just a means to one end – God’s glory.

"Wait a minute," you say, "I thought it was all about sharing Jesus with people."  Well, it is.  Sort of.  Read these passages and then tell me what you think.

John 14:13, 15:8, 17:24, 1 Corinthians 10:31, Philippians 1:10-11, Revelation 14:6-7
